Hello to my fellow Macaulay Honors students!
My name is Surpreet Singh Multani, and I am running for Macaulay Honors Student Council President.
My Experience
I had the honor of serving as Student Body President during my senior year of high school. In that role, I served as a liaison between students and faculty, making sure both sides had a voice and working toward changes that benefited the school as a whole.
I was also the captain of my varsity basketball team. Being a captain taught me that leadership goes beyond what happens during a game. I was responsible for helping my teammates stay focused and making sure they knew they could rely on me both on and off the court.
Not only that, since I attended a CTE high school, I enrolled in the engineering program. Through the program, I competed in Technology Engineering Design through SkillsUSA as the lead designer on a team of three. We followed the engineering design process to compete at the state level, where our team placed 1st, earning us the opportunity to compete nationally. At nationals, we placed 4th out of teams representing 35 states.
Outside of school, I volunteered with Leo’s Club, an international community service organization that gave me the opportunity to contribute to causes bigger than myself. During the Yemen crisis, we helped sponsor a family and were able to see the impact of our support. I also participated in toy drives and cancer awareness walks that brought people together across New York City.
Through all of these experiences, I learned how to communicate my ideas while also listening to others. More importantly, I learned how important it is to understand different perspectives and make sure everyone has an opportunity to contribute.
Why I Want Your Vote
One of the most important things I’ve learned through my experiences is how to work with different kinds of people. Everyone has different backgrounds, personalities, perspectives, and ideas, and I believe being able to listen to and understand those differences is an important part of being a good leader. I enjoy meeting new people and finding ways to work together toward a common goal. I want to bring that mindset to the student council and make sure everyone in our cohort feels represented and heard.
We’re going to be spending the next four years together, and I want those years to be something we genuinely look forward to. Macaulay should be more than just our classes and coursework. I want us to take advantage of everything Macaulay has to offer and make the most of the experiences we’ll have along the way.
I also want to create more opportunities for our cohort, whether that means new events, activities, or ways to get involved. Just as importantly, I want communication between students and student council to be open and consistent.
I’m ready to put in the time and effort this role deserves, and I would be honored to have your vote. I hope to represent our cohort well and help make our four years at Macaulay an experience we can all be proud of.
