Hello, my name Christian Rasmussen (he/him), nice to meet you :)!
I spent my life growing up on Staten Island, where I graduated from Curtis high school, but now I reside on campus in Manhattan. I am a mechanical engineering major and I also run cross country for CCNY. I also play bass guitar among other instruments and am a pretty avid gamer. My favorite artists are Tyler the Creator, Brent Faiyaz, Kali Uchis, and plenty more. I’ll pretty much listen to everything and anything.
So why am I having you read all this about me like I’m important? Well first off I’m not, and that’s what I would like to highlight. What I have always enjoyed when being captain of a team or president of a club is the ability to communicate with my peers and understand their goals. Thus, I find it exponentially important to find a representative who will express your values, goals and admirations in a way that is mutually beneficial to both the representative and those who are being represented. In order to be this figure, you need to be able to have good communication skills, be able to take criticism, be very easy going and understanding. All of these are traits that I find myself possessing,
I ran all four years of high school and for two of those years I was the captain of our cross-country and track team. Most people don’t find running to be a collaborative sport, and I understand why many would think that, I mean it is just running. But often times it’s purely the teamwork that pushes you to the limits. Cross country is extremely demanding (mentally and physically) and by going through such a process I have learned much about how to provide positive affirmations to teammates and peers.
Additionally, throughout high school I found myself attracted to environmental work. I worked on multiple projects with the parks department and I have found myself to really enjoying working with nature. Additionally at my school we grew a garden, which has been one of my most favorite things to do. I love growing plants. With gardening I have found that I gained the virtue of patience and I think that is an important quality to have in a representative.
Lastly, I participated, and led, multiple clubs and initiatives in the STEM department at my school. I maintained my school’s lab and lab equipment for my last three years of high school. While maintaining the lab I learned a lot about being diligent and studious. Additionally, I was co-president of my school’s data science club that was partnered with Columbia University where I did research on socio-economic inequality through infrastructure and road maintenance. Through research projects like this I was able to collaborate and gain important teamwork skills which in the long run were able to provide beneficial data to help further progress the fight against economic and racial inequality. I learned through that experience that I love helping people and that is why I am running for the position to give you, my peers, a voice but more importantly a foundation to build your goals as Macaulay students at CCNY.
Vote Christian Rasmussen to represent the Macaulay Class of 2025 at CCNY. And have a good day!
