Hey Macaulay Hunter students!!!
My name is Ahana, and I’m a pre-health freshman at Macaulay/Hunter. It’s been so incredible meeting you all during the past few weeks, and if I haven’t already met you, I’m excited to get to know you over the next few years!
Macaulay Hunter students deserve someone who advocates for the issues most unique to our specific campus and student body. Alongside broader Macaulay/CUNY initiatives like providing free student OMNY cards, some of the Hunter-specific issues I would fight for as your representative include:
Improving the Macaulay lounge at Hunter.
– Many of us will end up spending a lot of time in the Macaulay lounge over the next few years, so I would love to make it the best possible space it can be for studying, hanging out, or whatever else you may use it for.
– This would include providing more free communal resources, such as more free chargers, headsets, academic supplies (paperclips, index cards, etc.), and snacks!
Unity-building programs between Macaulay and the rest of the Hunter student body.
– As I talked with many of you, I kept hearing a similar complaint: “I wish we could feel more connected with other non-Macaulay Hunter students.”
– Through Macaulay-Hunter peer group mixers and by working with Hunter’s own student government, I would ensure that Macaulay students feel at home with non-Macaulay Hunter students and vice versa.
As your representative, I would also post a monthly survey for you to express any additional concerns you might have. After reviewing each one of your responses, I would address these issues with the rest of the Macaulay Scholars Council and the Macaulay administration.
As for my own experience and qualifications…
– If you hear my voice over the loudspeaker at your subway station discouraging subway surfing, that’s because I worked with the MTA to write and record improved PSAs. From that experience, I learned advocacy and resilience.
– From being Director-General of my high school’s Model United Nations team, I learned leadership and collaboration.
– From volunteering at Harlem Hospital and working at a primary care clinic, I learned empathy and responsibility.
At the end of the day, as your representative, I would do the best I could to ensure that your next few years at Macaulay and Hunter exceed your expectations in every way. I hope you consider voting for me on September 4th!
