Hi everyone! My name is Sameeha and I’m an incoming freshman at the College of Staten Island and Macaulay Honors College! Like many of you, I know starting college can feel overwhelming but I want to make sure this transition is less about stress and more about opportunity. My goal is to help us build a supportive, welcoming community where every student feels they belong.
MY EXPERIENCE AND IMPACT
In high school, I dedicated myself to leadership and creating meaningful spaces for students. I founded my school’s Muslim Student Association, not just to bring people together but to give underrepresented voices a place to be heard. Through this initiative, dozens of students who once felt isolated found connection, cultural representation and support.
As president of the Model United Nations debate team, I led my school’s delegation in international conferences. One of the most powerful moments of my leadership was getting to debate in the actual United Nations headquarters. There I represented youth voices and the power we hold to tackle global challenges. I learned how to build consensus, lead with empathy, and guide a team through complex issues. Under my leadership, we didn’t just prepare for conferences, we organized community awareness events and helped new members grow their confidence in public speaking. These experiences taught me that true leadership is about empowering others to lead with you.
Beyond school, I continued to invest in my community. With Givology, a non profit organization, I worked on fundraising efforts that provided educational resources to underprivileged children around the world, directly improving their quality of life. With the NYC Urban Debate League, I mentored younger students at tournaments, giving them the tools to grow their skills and confidence the same way debate once transformed me. I’ve seen firsthand how mentorship and support can change someone’s trajectory.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Research shows that students who feel connected to their peers and supported by their community report lower stress and greater academic success. I want to make sure every Macaulay student feels like they have a voice, a network and a home here.
WHY I WANT YOUR VOTE
I’m running because I believe student government should be a force for real change. If elected, I will:
– Make sure your concerns are listened to and acted upon.
– Build programs and events that strengthen connections between the Macaulay community and make it easier to access the events, especially for us CSI students!
– Advocate for resources that help us not just succeed academically but thrive socially and emotionally.
I promise to be approachable, committed and creative in finding solutions that make our student experience better. Your ideas will not stay ideas, instead they will become real initiatives that improve all of our lives!
Vote Sameeha for Macaulay Scholars Council!!!
