Hello classmates and friends! My name is Kinga Karp and just like most of the students here at Macaulay Honors College, I’ve noticed that the more opportunities and community support one receives, the more likely they are to gain the confidence they need to take greater strides. This is what I plan on strengthening at Macaulay, which is why I’m excited to be running for Macaulay Scholars Council, as the freshman representative for the College of Staten Island! 🐬🎉
To be part of a community is to feel like you’re home. Personally, as a student in a Brooklyn-based Polish school, I’ve felt the impact of community with every play we held as a class, writing competitions we partook in, and scholarships we tackled together. I took on a leadership role for my school’s Biology Club and was able to help members gain free access to a biohacking boot camp that spanned several days. This unique hands-on-learning laboratory experience outside of school hours included experimentation with techniques such as DNA purification and polymerase chain reaction!!! 🧬 Also, balancing soup kitchens, cemetery clean-ups, and other volunteer activities while taking many AP classes never felt tedious when I knew I was contributing to numerous communities.
Macaulay is a family. 🤝 When we come together and collaborate, we can achieve unimaginable things. Having experience in connecting students with unique opportunities, I intend to do just the same at Macaulay. I plan to uphold and strengthen our Macaulay family if I were elected as a representative! With this, I also plan on providing easier access to jobs, internships, and volunteer resources so that students can take advantage of all that this city (and beyond!) has to offer. 📝
Lastly, I promise to take initiative and navigate new ideas to best ensure the success and continued pride of our community. If you’d like to learn more or connect, please feel free to reach out on Instagram (@kin_brkln) Thank you for reading and I’d be very honored to have your vote!
