What does it mean to represent someone? I don’t think it means speaking for people without first asking what they want. I think representing means listening first, advocating second, and then following through. My name is Aiden Moloney, and it is with great pleasure and excitement that I announce my campaign to represent the Macaulay Honors students of Queens College.
I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in a lot of different communities, from theater and choir to Model UN, and I’ve also served as a Sunday school teacher and retreat leader. Each of these experiences has taught me something different about working with people, communicating, and being part of a community. And I think those experiences have shaped the kind of representative I want to be.
I believe that a representative should never be above the people they represent. I want to be someone who truly listens to the concerns of our community, and I want to be transparent about what is going on within the Macaulay Honors student council. Our class deserves to know about the potential options for events, and you should be able to choose what you want from your college experience. That is why, when I am elected, I will send weekly emails to all students where you can share concerns and suggestions. I will also summarize what is discussed during Macaulay Scholars Council meetings and include polls so that you can help determine what direction I advocate for. In addition, I will investigate why the program stopped providing students with laptops, and I will work diligently to find potential solutions so our class and future classes can have access to laptops from the Macaulay Honors College. I want my term to be one of transparency, honesty, and community.
I like to believe that we are all in this together as one class of 2030. We are all trying our best to figure out Queens College and the Macaulay Honors Program as we make this transition. I want to be your representative at Macaulay Central. My name is Aiden Moloney, and I hope you choose the power of listening.
