Hi guys! My name is Sanina and I’m an incoming freshman at Hunter College. I’m from Brooklyn and I plan on majoring in behavioral neuroscience. Outside of academics, I love spending time with my friends and exploring the city!
My experience and skills:
Throughout high school, I pushed myself outside of my comfort zone through leadership and community involvement. These are some of my most meaningful experiences.
I served as a Senior Representative on the student council, where I sat in meetings with our principal and other faculty, advocating for nearly 3,000 students. I also helped organize meetings centered on promoting school spirit, community, and diversity.
I was also President and Secretary of my school’s Muslim Student Association, where I led meetings, coordinated with my advisors and fellow leadership in curating fun and engaging lessons and events. I also helped strengthen our outreach in collaboration with other MSA’s and even Princeton.
I was also Vice President of Mock Trial, where I collaborated with my team and attorneys in analyzing courtroom strategies. This allowed us to advance to regional rounds.
Additionally, through volunteering and interning at my local hospital, I was able to work alongside healthcare professionals and help communicating with patients, including translations when necessary.
Why I want your vote:
I entered high school extremely hesitant and shy. By putting myself into leadership positions that placed me in the spotlight, I learned how to become confident, not only for myself, but for others who may struggle to speak up as well.
Student councils place an emphasis on being a strong representative, a good listener, dependable, empathetic, and an advocate. I believe I am all of these qualities and beyond. I would do my absolute best to hear your concerns, ideas, and suggestions, and see them through.
Whether it means advocating for student needs, bringing forward new ideas, or helping plan fun and inclusive events, I want to make sure Macaulay Scholars Council is a platform and community where everyone has a voice.
