HI EVERYONE!! I’m Nicole, and I’m so excited to be running for the Macaulay Scholars Council as a representative for John Jay! Like many of you, I chose Macaulay not only because of the free tuition (though I would be lying if I said it wasn’t a big reason), but because of its unique ability to connect all CUNY campuses into one singular community. Being in the Scholars Council would be a perfect opportunity for me to give back to the same group of people who have already inspired me so much❤️

Connecting with people has always been important to me—whether it’s overthinking all the “hello”’s I’ve said at orientation to being a student representative in my high school’s Student Leadership Team. I worked closely with my school counselor and principal to create support groups for student mental health after I heard concerns during exam season. As Communications Captain of my robotics team, I listened to my team members and revised a portfolio that took our severely underfunded team to state championships (for the first time in my school’s history🤑!!) When there were multiple incidences of LGBTQIA+ hate speech at my school, I stepped up as co-president of my school’s Gender Sexuality Alliance to present to the entire student body. When I hear a concern, I will ALWAYS care and ALWAYS act on it.

What makes me stand out? With a strong background in art, I can bring a fresh, artsy perspective to the table in terms of planning events and proposing creative projects that cater to student needs. Additionally, I’m comfortable working under pressure, which comes in handy when coordinating schedules and/or balancing conflicting student needs.

Ultimately, I want to make sure my cohort at John Jay has someone who will vehemently “defend their case” and let our small, but mighty class of ~20 students be an active part of the larger Macaulay community 🙂 I hope to be the best advocate I can be, so please reach out to me at @nicolelng_ (Instagram) or nicole.leung@macaulay.cuny.edu (email), and I will gladly respond! ❤️❤️❤️
