Hello Scholars Council!
This past year, it has been such a blessing to be a part of our diverse yet tight-knit Macaulay community and I am honored to have the chance to contribute more to it. Students are the lifeblood of our college and it is our duty to support them and encourage their support of each other and their personal communities.
Often, students ask about the community service requirement for graduation and opportunities to complete them. We currently have a large number of possible events and organizations for which students can volunteer, but I would like to increase awareness, accessibility, and engagement with both Macaulay Central and our 8 respective campuses. Students would greatly benefit from learning about the perspectives and experiences of students from other home campuses.
Events hosted by MSC and student-led clubs, such as Peace Action’s Art Sale, have helped me so much with reaching out to new people and finding a greater sense of myself. Not only does community service benefit groups directly impacted by our efforts, but it benefits ourselves. We find ourselves through what we do and who we surround ourselves with. As VP of Community Service, I would like to increase club-hosted volunteer events, particularly during our largest series of events, Community Service Weekend. Helping others is so fulfilling and it is an important thing to know that everything we do affects those around us. Our community is our responsibility.
I truly wouldn’t be the student leader that I am today without all of you, so I thank you all for your current and continued support, and for all the wonderful conversations we’ve had (I hope to have so many more)!
I hope to serve you all well as your VP of Community Service next year!
Best regards,
Rianne Rodeo
