Hey Mountain Lions! My name is Aditi Patel and I am a first year student at Baruch!<\/p>\n
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME: <\/p>\n
I am the youngest in my family and basically grew up in the heart of Flushing. Living there almost my whole life I understand what a diverse environment can feel like. One of the most important things it has taught me is: diversity brings not only diverse opinions but also diverse concerns. <\/p>\n
I vividly recall my first two years of high school, making new friends, getting to meet new people and getting used to the new environment. In part this experience was amazing however it came with its own overwhelming amount of concerns. I remember asking my friends how they felt about the school and realized they all had different things they wanted to change about the school environment. In that moment I realized something important: simply listening to them gave me the power of pushing forth changes that would make this school feel like home for many. This was one of my motivations to run for Student Government at my school. <\/p>\n
Student Government- Throughout my Junior and Senior year I was given the opportunity to serve as the clubs & assemblies coordinator and treasurer for my school. I worked alongside a determined team of peers who strived to address the issues that were brought to our attention, voicing the concerns and ideas we had for the school. In addition to that,my team and I organized events such as school formals, wellness events and more to foster a welcoming community among the school. Throughout this experience I learned another thing: Leadership has never been about trying to solve each and every concern, it’s about building a bridge, finding common ground and tackling one concern at a time. <\/p>\n
Future Forward Ambassador- In my Sophomore year of high school I was also elected as the ambassador for a school wide program. In this position, I worked with a group of students from each grade level to create a welcoming space for students and organized fun and engaging trips for the members of the program. This experience gave me the opportunity to collaborate with peers across different grade levels, preparing me to work with a diverse age range of group members. <\/p>\n
WHY ME:<\/p>\n
All the lessons I have learned throughout high school about different forms of diversity: diversity of age, ethnicity, mindset and more have led me to discover my passion for wanting to represent a diverse population. And you can’t get more diverse than Macaulay Baruch! <\/p>\n
Your voice, My Initiative: As the youngest of my family I know far too well what it feels like to be unheard, especially when it comes to issues you want addressed at your campus. And I strongly believe that our campus should be like our home, comforting and ever-changing to meet everyone’s needs. Think of me as the mega-phone, it’s your voice and concerns that I want to amplify so that they never go unheard. <\/p>\n
Beyond Voice: A team is better than one, so when I hear a concern, the MSC team will review it. Throughout that process I promise to be the advocate for a solution that not just closely resolves the issue but ensures that the same one does not rise again. <\/p>\n
Seeing eye to eye: We have all been through orientation and everyone of our mentors have mentioned how large the lines for elevators can get, and as someone who has most of her classes on really high floors I understand how overwhelming it can be,I assume most of us feel the same way. If elected as an MSC representative I would fight for an elevator dedicated for Macaulay students to ensure we are never late to our classes or overwhelmed. <\/p>\n
