My name is Sneha, and I\u2019m running to represent Hunter College on the Macaulay Scholars Council for the class of 2030! Here\u2019s a little bit more about me: I plan on majoring in Biology and Psychology as a
\npre-med, I love art, dance, good food, loooong walks, and binging my favorite shows! I\u2019m so excited to be joining all of you as a Macaulay Hunter student (and hopefully a scholars council member 🤫) this fall!<\/p>\n
What\u2019s my goal? To make sure your voice is heard & to give you access to every opportunities our beautiful city gives us.<\/p>\n
As Macaulay students, we have access to an incredible city full of opportunities but the hardest part is knowing where to find them, how to get involved, and who to ask in such a huge competitive environment. I want to help change that.<\/p>\n
Why me?
\nIn high school I was president of the South Asian Youth Association, Hindu Student Council, and Bollywood team. Through these positions I\u2019ve learned how to plan events, work with faculty, secure funding, and turn student ideas into reality. I have planned events with over 200 attendees, secured over $1000 of faculty funding, and successfully collaborated with other student clubs to create volunteer positions for said events. Moreover, as an EMT and former Youth Corps Captain at Jamaica Estates Volunteer Ambulance Corps, I\u2019ve also learned how to communicate under pressure and build relationships with outside organizations. I will use these skills to connect Hunter with opportunities across NYC.<\/p>\n
What I want to do:<\/p>\n
More events we actually want: NYC exploration days, cultural showcases, Macaulay mixers, finals study breaks, career panels, community service days, holiday parties, and end of semester celebrations. Being a commuter school will be a challenge so I want to give you as many opportunities as possible to come together. <\/p>\n
Make opportunities harder to miss: I will create a Hunter Macaulay opportunities calendar\/newsletter with internship opportunities, research positions, scholarships, volunteering, and events all in one place. Moreover I will create an updates channel on instagram to keep our year connected on social media. No more finding out about events after they\u2019ve happened!<\/p>\n
Connect Hunter to Macaulay and to NYC: More cross campus events, collaborations, and ways to meet people beyond Hunter. I will fight for CUNY OMNY cards along with other student representatives to make these events accessible to everyone! <\/p>\n
Actually represent YOU: Regular student check ins and anonymous tips google form to put in your own input. Events are nice but overall a scholars council member should make YOUR VOICE HEARD. I will fight for the concerns you put forward and push for your needs above all.<\/p>\n
Moreover I am running as a member of \u201cThe M Line\u201d! By running as a slate, we are able to decrease the gap between campuses. There\u2019s power in numbers so we promise to create a more unified community and fight for the issues that affect all CUNY students including transportation, communication, finances, and making CUNY a more memorable experience. Being a scholars council member is about listening, advocating, connecting, and FOLLOWING THROUGH on ALL my promises!
