My name is Nihal, I’m majoring in Bio on the premed track and I’m excited to be running for the Macaulay Scholars Council as the Brooklyn college representative!

To tell you the truth, I’ve never been involved in student government, so this is entirely new to me. Now while I may be new to student government, I’m definitely not new to leadership, management, and dedicated service.

More specifically, my experience is primarily based on taking care of people and helping them progress. As a highschooler, I worked for JEVAC as an EMT and dispatcher, while also serving their Youth Corps in different officer positions such as Captain, Lieutenant, and Secretary. It was here that I learned how to operate in high-pressure situations, advocate, and most importantly, learn to listen. What’s more is, I was Branch director for a tutoring organization, managing over 50 students and 15 tutors which helped me in starting my own private tutoring service earning me $3000, all the while I accumulated an additional 500 hours of volunteer tutoring service under my belt through SMOA. It was through these roles I learned what it means to serve student needs and form an initiative.

Therefore, I can confidently say that regardless of my lack of experience in student government, I 100% have the communication and management skills required as your council representative.

If elected, I’ll try my best to achieve the following:
Campus sports: As a huge basketball and football fan, being someone who played in high school and recreationally, I can say sports are a big part of my life. This year was a great year for us New Yorkers, (not if you’re a jets, mets, or nets fan, sorry 😅), which is why I’d like to host inter-campus sporting events and host private watch parties.
Opportunities board: A lot of people neglect extracurriculars as they’re too difficult to find or even go in depth with, which is why I want to launch a monthly mailing list containing internships, events, and resources tailored for each general field, including Medicine🏥, STEM📐, Arts🕺🎨, humanities📕, business💼, etc!
Safety: Utilizing my medical background, I hope to incorporate monthly first-aid practice classes in-order to share crucial life-saving skills. ⚕⚕⚕
Academics: I’ll try my best to organize weekly study spaces which will be stocked with snacks, so that everyone can lock in 📚
A Vocal advocate: I will try my best in securing the CUNY OMNY cards and bringing back the Macbooks. Also, I’ll be creating a google form, so that you guys may bring up any concerns or ideas.

Did I mention, I’m running as a member of the M line? Stay on the right track and if you’re from a different campus, please check out your campus candidate that’s running under The M Line!!!

With everything being said, I’m ready to forge a supportive and connected community at Brooklyn College. I would be honored to serve as your representative! Btw if you want to connect with me reach out to @nihalr._

Hello my fellow Bulldogs 🐕!
