Fall 2024 Student Lounge Volunteer Application

Job Description –

The Student Lounge Volunteer position (SLV) provides you with a unique opportunity to interact with students across all eight campuses and get to know the staff throughout Macaulay. You will assist in Student Development activities and events such as giving event pitches, event promotion, and the set-up and management of events. You will also have the opportunity to host your own student engagement programs. As an SLV, you will join a small community of like-minded individuals, coordinated by our Student Life Intern.

You will develop your communication, team building, and event planning skills. Indulge in your own interests and share your passions with the wider Macaulay community by hosting specific programming: video games, study groups, board games, or other hobbies – explore these with others by hosting your own event! You will also be managing the Macaulay building and be able to explore and utilize the Macaulay space. This experience can be added to your resume and you will be able to use Student Development as a reference for future applications. You will also receive a Student Lounge Volunteer badge in Club Macaulay!

Roles and Responsibilities –

There are two roles within the Student Lounge Volunteers team that you can apply to serve in:

  1. Lounge/Program Volunteer: Facilitates weekly Reading Room Hours on a set day (times flexible: M-F, 5-9pm) & plans nightly and semester events.
  2. Study Volunteer: Plans and facilitates study groups in particular subjects – meet at recurring days and times on a weekly basis

The time commitment for each role is 1-3 hours per week AT THE MACAULAY BUILDING (35 W 67th Street).

General Requirements –

  • Must be able to commit at least 1 hour a week, at the Macaulay Building
  • Must be able to attend at least 1 Macaulay event
  • Volunteer to help out other Student Development events throughout the semester, such as the Halloween Party, Finals Wellness, Spring Formal, etc.
  • Must plan at least 1 student engagement opportunity (working with other SLVs, with guidance from the Student Life Intern) and support event collaborations with clubs.
  • Assist with student engagement promotion, such as creating event flyers and posting on the Club Macaulay Feed
  • Attend Student Lounge Volunteer Orientation hosted by Student Life Intern
  • Attend mandatory monthly in-person group check-in meetings with Student Life Intern
  • All activities should occur in the Macaulay Building (35 W 67th Street, New York, NY 10023)

*Note: this opportunity will not count towards fulfilling the Macaulay community service hours requirement. This position is in-person.
